How long will my battery last at 1,000W load?
For the 14.3kWh battery, a sustained 1,000W load equates to approximately 14 hours of runtime without any supplementary charging. For the 7.1kWh battery, approximately 7 hours. These figures reduce if the battery is not starting from 100% or if additional loads are present.
How many watts does the inverter itself draw?
Approximately 50 watts per hour when the inverter is on and converting 230V power. To save power overnight, use the in-cabin INV switch to turn the inverter off when 240V is not needed. The expected overnight SoC drop from inverter standby alone is 5 to 8%.
Is the DCX battery waterproof?
Yes. The DCX battery is rated IP67, which means it is protected against immersion in water up to 1 metre depth for 30 minutes. It can safely go through river crossings when correctly mounted.
How long does the battery take to charge from empty?
The 14.3kWh battery charges in 13 to 14 hours from grid power when starting from empty. This is accelerated when charging simultaneously from solar during the day. The 7.1kWh battery charges in approximately 6 to 7 hours from grid.
Can I run the air conditioner from the battery?
Yes. The DCX 5kW inverter can power a rooftop air conditioner (typically 1,200 to 2,500W). For extended air conditioner use, supplement with solar charging or shore power to maintain battery charge. Running the air conditioner overnight from battery alone will significantly drain the battery.
What is the minimum generator size?
The minimum generator requirement is 2.2 KVA pure sine wave inverter generator. Higher capacity generators (3 KVA and above) are recommended for better efficiency and generator longevity.
Why does my BMS show negative amps when charging?
This is correct and normal. Charging is displayed as a negative amp value on the BMS screen. Negative means power is flowing into the battery. Positive means power is flowing out. A reading of -27A means the battery is receiving 27 amps of charge.
Can I add more solar panels?
Yes, subject to the PV array voltage limits of your model. The LV model (OZX-5KW-LV-V5) accepts 120 to 450 VDC input with a maximum 5,000W PV rating. The ELV model (OZX-5KW-ELV-V5) accepts 60 to 115 VDC with a maximum 3,000W PV rating. Contact OzX Corp to discuss expansion options for your specific installation.
Why does the power trip at caravan parks?
Caravan park sites are typically limited to 15A. The DCX system uses approximately 8A for battery charging, leaving approximately 7A for appliances. Running high-draw appliances (air conditioner, kettle) while the battery is charging easily exceeds 15A total. Use Grid Bypass mode or wait for the battery to fully charge before running high-draw appliances.
How do I save power overnight?
Turn the inverter off at night using the in-cabin INV switch (saves approximately 50W per hour). Charge devices and run high-draw appliances during daylight hours. Use 12V appliances where possible overnight instead of 240V. Keep panels clean and position the van for maximum solar exposure during the day.
What should I do before a long trip?
Fully charge the battery before departure — this can take up to 14 hours. Pre-heat or pre-cool the van before leaving where possible, including stabilising the fridge and hot water system. Check the battery voltage is at or near 58VDC before departing.
